There are some of the factors that affect the project, not that we do not know about them but we just ignore and rush into things. The success of the project is not the speed that you complete with but the quality of your work. There are some measures that you need to look in implementation of systems in every project.
Do not start looking into the requirement of the business before you tackle other crucial issues. Categorize your sponsors and derive important information from them. Such information may include their intension in the project and what might be out of the scope. You are also supposed to know who are or will be your customers or clients. Other issues you are needed to put more attention at the start are; project budget, expenditures, anticipated success factors, time for completion, reporting status and communication plans to customers, other parties as well as to the sponsors.
Now you can go the business requirement. This should be done before going for IT personnel for implementation of systems. It is good that you document everything and not in a hasty speed because this might lead you into trouble. Do not waste to discuss what the systems and technology, discuss what the business requires. Remember that the technology and systems are there to support the business but not to dictate the running of its operations. Time has reached to think how you are going to deliver what you require in the business.
If you already have software contenders, then it’s good that you allow demonstrations by vendor for the customers. Have a trial phase with the top vendors to connect the requirement and the product.
