When you are working with databases or web applications deleting records is one of the most common tasks, it can happen for various reasons and because it understand how to do it is essential.

In PostgreSQL deleting records is performed using the DELETE command syntax as shown below:


As a practical example we will delete all records from a table that stores the sales of a store.

DELETE FROM tbl_sales

With the above syntax all products will be deleted and this can be a problem since it does not always delete all records from a table of production is recommended, so it is important to use clause WHERE with the command.

DELETE FROM tbl_sales WHERE cod_sales = 1

In the example above only the record that has the code 1 is removed from the table.

Delete records is an action that needs to be done very carefully since deleted data can not be restored unless a backup is done and restored later.
