Friendly URLs are URLs with an easy understanding for the search engines and to the end users, it aims to set the page you are viewing more understandable for those who are entering the first page. For those not familiar with the term “URL” it is the website address as in “www.scriptcase.net“.
Usually the website has its main domain and each page that is created after the main page will get an extension, as a example we have our website which is: www.scriptcase.net and then we have the blog page: www.scriptcase.net/blog when someone look at this URL will automatically associate it is as the Scriptcase’s blog page. If the page URL is set as “www.scriptcase.net/?m=997“, nobody will understand what that page is about before access it.
So imagine if this link was sent by e-mail or if it was a google query result. It does not seems to be something reliable to click on. In this way the friendly URL is more attractive to be clicked and saved, and it also generates a better security sense for those who are viewing the URL for the first time.
Some rules are valid in order to create a friendly URL:
– Do not use accents, symbols and special characters like ç, á, é, ñ…;
– The words should be separated by an hyphen (-);
– Use lowercase;
– Whenever possible include a keyword;
– It Should be as short as possible.
All the Scriptcase’s applications have the friendly URL option avaliable, this setting option is under: application > friendly URL.
There is also the possibility to edit the Friendly URL on the project’s home.
